Men’s Olive Green Jackets and What to Wear With this Fall and Winter

By Steve

Every fall and winter season someone will ask me, “Are olive green jackets in style?” It’s a tricky question to answer, as fashion is ever-changing and what is popular today might not be popular tomorrow. However, olive green is a classic color that has been in style for many years. Olive green is a great choice for people who want a sophisticated look. It can be paired with a variety of colors, and it’s a great departure from the traditional navy and gray jackets you already have in your wardrobe. So if you’re looking for a timeless color that will never go out of style, then olive green is a great choice.

Well, the easiest way to answer the follow up question of “What goes with an olive green jacket?” is to move right into what can be better seen than explained.

So let the following be your guide…

Here are Six Ways to Style Three Different Olive Green Jackets

The jacket styles take their cue from a generation that demands well-dressed informality. Their styling has just a whisper of European flair… slim silhouettes; natural masculine shoulders; slightly shorter jackets; and while pleats are quietly creeping back in, trousers remain narrow; more lean.

What colors don’t go with olive green?

Olive green doesn’t go well with vibrant colors. For example, some common colors that don’t work well with olive green are red, yellow, and purple. So if you’re thinking of adding an olive green jacket to your wardrobe, make sure to choose accessories in colors that harmonize well with it, as shown above.

What colors do go with olive green?

If you’re looking for a more natural and subtle look, pair your olive green jackets with navy and gray trousers. I recommend staying with white, off-white and ecru in dress shirts, and off-white, taupe, light brown, green and gray in knits.

If you’re looking for a bolder yet sophisticated look, then you might want to choose a burgundy or off-white trouser. When wearing these color trousers I would stay with knits over dress shirts in burgundy, off-white, taupe, light brown, beige and camel.

Lastly, your color choices with accessories will be key in pulling everything together. Whether you are wanting a subtle look or a more fashion forward look, the colors you should be looking for in ties, pocket squares and scarves are the following: maroon, burgundy, plum, persimmon, beige and golden tan.
